But perhaps the best thing about marble is that it’s so easy to add a touch of luxe to your decor by incorporating it into your design. In our latest blog, we explore more about one of our favourite natural stone finishes.

What Is Marble?

Marble is a metamorphic rock which is made up of recrystallized carbonate minerals, usually calcite or dolomite. Pure white marble is the result of metamorphism of a pure limestone or dolomite protolith. The name is derived from the Greek word that means “to sparkle, flash and gleam,” and marble is undoubtedly one of the most luxurious materials of our industry.

Italian Marble

There are many variations from all over the world, but perhaps the most sought after, are the white marbles sourced from Italy and include Carrara and Calacatta. These two precious Italian stones resemble one another, but there are subtle differences to note that will help you choose the right marble for your project.

Carrara Marble

The most common Italian marble is Carrara named for the region it comes from. Carrara marble is greyish-white to blue-grey, with beautiful soft feathery linear veining formed by nature.

Calacatta Marble

This classic Italian marble also comes from a quarry in Carrara, Italy, and is one of the more valuable and favoured white marble stones. Calacatta on a warm white tone and contains a striking mixture of brown/gold and grey veins that vary in size.

Versatile Luxury

The sheer scale of choice of colour and finish gives marble a natural versatility that works effortlessly with modern, minimalist and industrial schemes as well as grand and opulent spaces in equal measure.
